Breaking News For Halibut Fishing in 2012.

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council has proposed the following limits for halibut fishing in southeast Alaska for 2012. This proposal was accepted by the International Pacific Halibut Commission at their meeting in Anchorage in January.

- The Guideline Harvets Level (GHL) for Southeast Alaska has been stepped up from last year's 788,000 lbs to 931,000 lbs.

- The halibut size limit has been ammended to a reverse slot limit of one fish per day up to 48 inches or one fish per day over 60 inches.

This is excellent news for everyone considering charter fishing for halibut in southeast Alaska in 2012. The increased allocation and reverse slot limits provides the opportunity to catch good sized halibut for eating as well as providing the opportunity to catch the larger trophy fish of a life time.

and, don't forget... the limit for self-guided anglers remains unchanged at two fish per day, no size limit.
